Attending university is a significant milestone in a student's life. While some students choose to live at home with their fmailies during their studies, others opt to live independently in another city. Although living away from home during university has some advantages, I believe that the disadvantages outweigh the benefits.

    : landmark, turning point
  • opt to (선택하다, 결정하다)
    : choose to, decide to
    : exceed, surpass

One of the primary drawbacks of living away from home is the financial burden it imposes on students. When living with their families, students often receive financial support from their parents for basic necessities such as housing and food. In contrast, students who live independently must bear the full cost of living expenses. For example, rent for accommodation can consume a substantial portion of a student's monthly budget. Additionally, students living alone must allocate funds for groceries and meal preparation, further straining their financial resources.

  • drawback (단점, 불리한 점)
    : disadvantage, downside
    : levy, force
  • housing (주택, 거주지)
    : accommodation, residence
    : carry, endure
  • expense (비용, 지출)
    : cost, expenditure
    : use up, devour
    : assign, allot
  • funds (자금, 기금)
    : money, resources
    : stress, pressure

Furthermore, students who live with their families have the advantage of readily available support and guidance from their parents. University life can be challenging, and navigating the complexities of academia and personal growth can be overwhelming for many students. In such situtations, having parents nearby to offer advice and share their own experiences can be invaluable. For instance, parents can provide insights on matters ranging from relationships and academic pursuits to career planning. Especially when it comes to career development, parental guidance can be crucial in helping students prepare for the job market and make informed decisions about their professional paths.

  • readily (쉽게, 손쉽게)
    : easily, effortlessly
  • guidance (지도, 안내)
    : direction, advice
    : demanding, difficult
: steer through, find one's way
: scholarly community, the world of education and research
    : overpowering, irresistible
    : priceless, indispensable
  • insights (통찰력, 식견)
    : perceptions, understandings
  • ranging from A to B (A부터 B까지 다양한)
    : varying from A to B, extending from A to B
  • pursuit (추구, 목표)
    : quest, aspiration
    : knowledgeable, well-advised

While living independently can foster personal growth and autonomy, the financial and emotional support that comes with living with family during university often outweighs these benefits. Therefore, if given the opportunity, students should consider staying with their families for as long as possible to maximize the support and guidance available to them during this transformative period in their lives.

    : promote, encourage
  • autonomy (자율성, 독립성)
    : independence, self-governance
  • if given (주어진다면, 기회가 있다면)
: if provided, if presented with
  • available to (사용 가능한, 이용할 수 있는)
: accessible to, at one's disposal
    : life-changing, revolutionary

In conclusion, while there are certainly advantages to living away from home during university, such as developing independence and self-reliance, the disadvantages, including financial strain and reduced access to parental support, are more significant. Ultimately, the decision to live at home or away should be based on a student's individual circumstances and priorities.

  • certainly (확실히, 분명히)
    : definitely, undoubtedly
  • self-reliance (자립, 자기 의존)
    : independence, self-sufficiency
  • strain (긴장, 부담)
    : stress, pressure
  • access (접근, 이용 기회)
    : approach, opportunity
  • be based on (~에 기초하다, ~에 근거하다)
: be founded on, be determined by
    : preferences, main concerns
